Royal Grocer & Co.

The Royal Blue Store originally occupied the space that's currently home to Royal Grocer & Co. During the 1920s, it served as a small neighborhood grocery store that was a favorite in the community.

As Grocer & Co., it aims to do the same with a farm-focused menu. The menu is seasonal, but guests should expect three signature staple dishes: green circle half chicken that's citrus brined, then fried and paired with smoked collards, cornbread and Fresno garlic maple syrup; radish pasta topped with uni butter, grilled radish, dashi and smoked trout roe; and an artisan bread plate from Publican Quality Bread. There are also specialty cocktails, 22 rotating craft drafts and a tightly curated wine list.

Royal Grocer seats 18 guests at the bar, 16 guests at tables inside, 30 guests in its interior private party space, and 120 outside on the property’s beloved patio space that also features four outdoor flatscreen TVs. There are plans to cover and heat a portion of the patio later this fall so guests can enjoy that space year round.

Address: 2118 N. Damen Ave., Chicago
