Just another lovely collection of exhibits to be found in great old Chicago. We love this town! Been coming to Chicago for over 20 years and places like this Museum and campus are an excellent source of education and exercise; lots of walking. Very safe environment and near all the major downtown parks. Love the new dinosaur sculpture they are building right outside on the west side of the campus. Enjoy!
With a family of 5 we felt the museum was very Affordable, clean, and fun. My kids range from (3yo, 5yo, and 10yo) and there was so something for everyone. We even enjoyed lunch in the Cafe in the lower level and felt the portions were huge while the prices weren't bad. We did have left overs that we regret to have thrown away however we completely understand not carrying food around one of the greatest museums. We absolutely LOVED Sue. That was their favorite exhibit by far but I think mine is Egypt. Either way we had so much fun, our only regret was not having another day to go and see more.
Shedd Aquarium is awesome. Fully worth a visit to Chicago. The Field Museum is massive. We spent over 1 hour in one exhibit area. There are 3 floors with multiple exhibitions on each floor, the smaller children (8y/o) wanted to go from point to point quickly while the older kids spent time reading the info plaques and watching the videos. It did get crowded in the Sue exhibit, as well as within the Ancient Americas exhibit. The staff were energetic and engaging, and answered my silly questions with science and humor. Even if one were outside of the buildings, the grounds are well manicured and clean. There are gardens and orchards to visit. The lake front walkway offers nice views of the lake, the museums' impressive exteriors and the city skyline.
So much to do in all of the museums, breathtaking exhibits and beautifully curated grounds. No mater your interests there's a little something for everyone. Super easy to walk from one to the next. Bonus tip: If its a nice day out definitely give yourself time to grab a treat from a street vendor and just find a spot and enjoy the park as well.
Field Museum was fun. The evolving earth, Sue, & the rest of the dinosaurs were the best part. The staff was setting up for an evening event around 3:30-4 and we felt like we were in their way while navigating the museum the last hour. Having signs up stating that would happen would have been good. Maybe there were signs and we missed them — Overall we had a great time.
