Misericordia Greenhouse Inn - Chicago
This cheerful cafe is operated by the residents of Misericordia, a mission of the Sisters of Mercy that has been providing services for persons in need since 1921. Originally a home for unwed mothers, since 1954 it has supported children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities.
The Greenhouse Inn opens for lunch Tuesdays through Fridays and breakfast and brunch on Sundays.
House-made soups and a daily special supplement a salad bar, grill specials, colossal sandwiches and healthful platters. Desserts include puff pastries filled with ice cream, lemon cheese cake, souffles, cookie sundaes and carrot cake made in Misericordia's Hearts & Flour Bakery.
