Mercado Cocina │Cantina - Glenview
In an unassuming strip mall in the northwest suburb of Glenview, chef Yanitizin "Yanni" Sanchez is doing some unconventional things with Mexican cuisine at Mercado Cocina │Cantina. The former chef/owner of critically acclaimed Chicago restaurant Sabor Saveur draws from inspiration from her own heritage as well as world travels.
Her menu is also market inspired, as she focuses on seasonal ingredients in simple items like guacamole, tacos and desserts. For example, her "seasonal," chef-crafted guacamole has featured pistachios and goat cheese, and tacos go next level with the addition of hibiscus-infused tortillas. Speaking of tortillas, they're not only fresh, but they're also made to order.
For those looking for more traditional Mexican food, Sanchez offers that as well. From carne asada and chicken mole enchiladas to a chicken burrito, she's featuring it all. The beverage program showcases seasonal takes on margaritas, plus offers beer and wine.
The restaurant is across the street from the Metra station.
