Mason - Chicago
Located on the lobby level of Found Hotel, Mason is the first of what's expected to be a small chain of steakhouses by the h.wood Group. Its name originates from a street in Southern California on which another location is soon to open.
It's designed to pay homage to classic American steakhouses, with the interior filled with heavy dark wood and plush leather booths. The food and drink menus also pay tribute to classic steakhouse fare. They've been updated, of course, for a modern dining audience.
Oyster Rockefeller, for example, features braised leeks and bread crumbs. Pigs in a Blanket is updated with andouille sausage and saffron aioli. And the beef Wellington, carved tableside, is designed for two. It's certainly the star of the show, alongside a 32-ounce, dry-aged ribeye and 30-ounce porterhouse.
Traditional desserts range from baked Alaska to an update on the bananas Foster.
