Located on a bustling street in Avondale, La Humita turns out some of the best Ecuadorian cuisine in Chicago. The namesake specialty is a traditional appetizer from Ecuador made with fresh corn and cheese, steamed inside a corn husk. Other menu options include empanadas, potato pancakes served with fried eggs, chorizo, and avocado, and quimbolito, a dessert pudding consisting of Cognac and raisins steamed in a corn husk. El Balcon (the balcony), the lounge upstairs, offers cocktails, appetizers, and entrees, plus live music Friday and Saturday nights.

I hate to write a bad review because the guy was so nice but the food is just bad. You get a TON of white rice which is most of your plate and the meat looks and tastes like it’s been sitting there for a while, you get very little meat too.The humita bread was not good at all. The only thing that I loved was the Quimbolito very good.

Super reasonably priced delicious clean fresh food. Vegetarians can truly enjoy this place as well. Meatless lentils and beans. It's a great fast food place without the fast food.. Definitely a place to go back to time and time again when you're on your way home and just want something delicious comforting and without the junk factor.

Love the new concept — the ingredients were fresh and our meal was cooked in front of us. This time I tried the lomo saltado and would definitely recommend it. I’ll be back soon to try more!

I love this place, they changed the restaurant profile to an express/fast food style. The service is faster with the same good quality food and flavor. They offer delivery, take out and dine in. I work next door and I’m so happy for having this restaurant close by.

This review is for La Humita on Wheels (the food truck). Got a taco and a corn cup from the food truck while they were at Royal Palms. The corn was good! The "steak" taco, however, was one of the worst things I have ever eaten. The "steak" was (no hyperbole) disgusting. First of all, it didn't taste like it was beef. The texture didn't resemble any steak I've ever had. Second, the seasoning was inedible and didn't taste like something that belonged in a taco. My wife and I both took one bite and threw the rest of the taco away. In a city with this many fantastic asada tacos, the fact that this taco truck thinks they can sell whatever that was is shocking and they should be embarrassed. +1 star for corn cup execution.

A bit pricey, but I loved the warm vibes of this place. Everyone was in a good mood, food was yummy, fish was PERFECT. Friday nights karaoke in Spanish and English...you wanna talk about a fun night. Atmosphere is super moody after sunsets, which makes it perfect for date night. The owner is alway around and will answer a million questions about the food that he's clearly passionate about. Can't wait to go back.
