Founded in 1972 as the Film Center of the School of the Art institute, the Film Center presents premieres of new American and foreign films, revivals of classics, retrospectives, independent productions and film festivals. It also showcases appearances by prominent filmmakers, critics, actors and historians. Over 100 programs are presented every month.

Good theater with fantastic programming. A must-visit for anyone who cares about film. Keep in mind that film reels of older movies aren't always going to be in the best quality, but the opportunity to see those movies on the big screen decades after they were in theaters is well worth it.

Great selection of first-run foreign and art films that you won't find anywhere else, along with some repertory fare. The employees are efficient and helpful. It's very clean inside. Convenient location (right off an El stop) in downtown Chicago.

Glad to have a spot where limited releases films are shown! Very clean cinema. In the midst of busy State Street. The only reason not 5 starts is they didn’t have concessions - I feel that’s half the fun of a movie… even a box of candy and pop ! maybe cause of Covid? But also I did not find the chairs comfortable. They are soft chairs BUT the back is firm straight , maybe they were so new they didn’t have much “give”. They did lean back , but you had to force it.
