The owner of Union Sushi + Barbeque Bar has opened an American-focused tavern and restaurant in River North. This time around, Union Sushi chef Chao Thapthimkuna explores turn-of-the-century cuisine that's created with the modern diner in mind. The menu showcases dishes such as house-brined corned beef with grilled cheese and sauerkraut; venison chops, shrimp pot pie; and meat, cheese and smoked fish boards.
The menu's meant to complement an innovative and educational beverage program, which showcases cocktails made with rare spirits. The Franklin Room will also encourage a culture of tasting new spirits by offering tasting portions and flight programming. Guests should also be on the lookout for a first-of-its-kind "bottle keep" program, which allows guests the opportunity to purchase extremely rare spirits and save them on site, free of charge, to enjoy at their leisure.
