Amazing salad bar for lunch. The smoked salmon is amazing.
I really hate to tell you about this place, because it might mean it is harder to get into next time, but that is better than it floundering from a lack of business. I have been here a few times and they never disappoint. Very comfortable seating with variety depending on your mood for the bar, a lounging area or differing dinner seatings. Did I mention the food? Unusual and fantastic. I am headed back tonight, so pick some other night to come and try it out.
What a hidden gem! Owned by the same restaurant gurus as Au Cheval and Bavette's, I came in ready for a fantastic meal and I am happy to say they absolutely delivered! The atmosphere is a more laid back and casual version of Bavette's, not withholding the big leather couches and dim lighting. First, I must point out they have a $6 glass of wine. Let me repeat... $6 glass of wine. In River North. $6 people!!!! Craziness. So, of course I had to order it. Far from the best glass of wine I have ever had, but it was a perfect pairing with my meal and for $6, I found it very difficult to be even slightly disappointed. We shared the dishes we ordered which included: the raviolo, stuffed with cheese, a gooey egg yolk, and of gigantic size. Then, we continued the gargantuan theme and tried the giant meatball. Surprisingly moist considering what a hassle it must be to cook such a thing. The orecchiette was next and probably my favorite dish of the night. Hints of spicy heat popped out here and there in each bite and rounded out the otherwise mild (but delicious) dish very well. Our grand finale was the nine layer lasagna, completed with a warm blanket of broiled cheese on top. It was a fantastic Italian meal and I would absolutely return.
Excellent. They were very attentive and although not what I would call traditionally "family friendly" (no high chairs) they were spot on. Solid enough to make it a nice experience for a couple with 4 year old (on his best behavior) and baby sister have a good experience. A very attentive staff (not just the waiter) made this a 5 star experience, and very good food cemented it. I had to knock off a star for the high prices (15 bucks for one ravioli...albeit one really good ravioli) which I think could be shaved down a bit, but if they have to charge this high to keep this high level of service I say go for it and stay the course.
Yummy. The dishes are small and meant to be shared, so get at least 2 per person. The spicy fennel pasta dish was great.
