Avli Taverna

Avli Taverna - Chicago

A second location for this Winnetka, Ill.-based eatery has opened in Lincoln Park. Avli Taverna is a modern Greek destination offering traditional Greek barbecue, small plates and larger dishes. The restaurant serves brunch and dinner.

One of Avli Taverna's signature offerings is the Greek Feast, which consists of barbecue lamb. It may be ordered for in-house service or takeout and serves larger groups. It's a hit with guests as well as the Berkshire pork and slow-roasted chicken, which may also be served gyro style.

Guests will find that Avli features a host of dishes popular at most Greek restaurants, but they put their own spin on them. That includes saganaki (the flaming hot cheese served tableside), which arrives with peppered figs and honey; seafood lettuce wraps filled with cold, marinated calamari, shrimp and octopus; and grilled, thinly cut New Zealand lamb chops.

Considering brunch? Guests may build their own breakfast bowls with Greek yogurt served with traditional and healthy toppings like berries, nuts, honey, Greek preserves and granola. There are also egg dishes, miniature pitas filled with vegetarian items, pork, chicken or lamb; and Greek-inspired French toast.
