Water Tower & Pump Station

Surrounded by modern buildings and shopping destinations, the Chicago Water Tower & Pump Station stands as a beacon of the past. Constructed in 1869, making it one of the oldest water towers in the country, the landmark was established to house a large water pump to draw water from Lake Michigan. The building famously was one of the few in the area to survive the Great Chicago Fire, and remains a symbol of old Chicago. Today, it serves as an art gallery for the Chicago Office of Tourism.
