Pilgrim Baptist Church

Pivotal during the Civil Rights Movement, Pilgrim Baptist Church hosted a number of prominent clergymen during the 1960s, including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The original structure--which was designed by famed architect Louis Sullivan, engineer Dankmar Adler and then draftsman Frank Lloyd Wright--burned down in 2006. The original walls survived and are a part of the new structure.

Over the years the likes of Aretha Franklin, Thomas Dorsey (a.k.a. The Father of Gospel Music) and The Staple Singers have performed here.
