Paul H. Douglas Nature Sanctuary

Paul H. Douglas Nature Sanctuary, located in Jackson Park, was named for the Illinois senator who helped secure the preservation of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore and other important natural areas in the 1960s. Also known as "Wooded Isle," the name it was given for the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, the natural area is among the small number of sites in the city sizable enough to give a hint of true wildness.
