North Lakeside Cultural Center

The North Lakeside Cultural Center serves as a cultural hub for the Edgewater, Rogers Park, and Uptown neighborhoods. Comprised of three adjacent lakefront properties, the cultural center was originally run by the Edgewater Community Council after the neighborhoods rallied to prevent the city from building high rises in front of the last vestige of pedestrian access to the lakefront. Eventually, the North Lakeside Cultural Center was formed, designed as a distinct entity to take over for the Edgewater Community Council. The center consists of the Berger Park cultural campus, a park district field house inside the Berger mansion, a playlot, and the North Lakeside Cultural Center itself, housed in the Gunder mansion.
