I can see that, when even Mr. Zee’s, a Greek snack shop in Morton Grove has rebranded itself as Mr. Gee’s B.B.Q. on Demand, the barbecue trend might be getting a little ridiculous. But I think it’s fantastic — bring it on! All styles, all flavors, the more the merrier. Let’s have Kansas City-style, St. Louis-style, Texas-style, South Carolina-style, you-name-it-style … heck, we can even encompass Western Kentucky barbecued mutton. The Gaztro-wagon hits the Chicago streets tomorrow. Chicago’s hotel restaurants are sizzling this summer. Here’s a sampling: Stetson’s Chop House in the Loop’s Hyatt Regency Chicago has added a $38 three-course set menu to recently enhanced regular menu. Served daily before 6:30 p.m. and after 8 p.m., the prix fixe offers a choice of French onion soup or caesar salad to [...] Condolences to the family and friends of Edna Stewart, founder and head chef of West Side soul food spot Edna’s Restaurant. They call it the Red Bar Comedy Club, but the humor can be decidedly blue. Celebrate with D.O.C., Hugo’s and Gibsons Skip the same old eggs and sausage, and check out the out-of-the-ordinary Sunday brunch buffet at the recently opened Rogers Park location of Ethiopian Diamond. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MANNY’S! On this day in 1942, Jack Raskin opened what was to become Chicago’s foremost delicatessen, Manny’s Coffee Shop & Deli in the South Loop. Going stronger than ever, Manny’s is now run by Jack’s grandson Ken and great-grandsons Danny and Matt Raskin. The decadently rich, port-infused chocolate pudding Chef Kendal Duque recently served at Lakeview’s new Cuna restaurant deserves a fanciful moniker. It’s a perfect dessert for Valentine’s Day! |
