Hot Dog Cookoff For Charity

Hot dogs are even more delicious when they’re cooked for a good cause. The all-American staple takes the spotlight on August 1 for the third annual Hot Dog Cookoff for charity, hosted by Gapers Block and Reach Out and Read (ROR) at Schubas in Lakeview. Taking place from noon until 5:00 p.m., the summertime shindig features novel takes on classic Vienna Beef hot dogs by chefs from Schubas’ Harmony Grill, Wiener and Still Champaion, Monti’s, and ManBQue. Entries will be judged by a panel of hot dog aficionados, including Dining Chicago’s very own “The Food Dude”  David Lissner, hot dog historian Bruce Kraig, chef Alan Lake, Doug Sohn of Hot Doug’s fame, and Lisa White from Chicagoist. Attendees will also get to vote for the People’s Choice Award. Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for children younger than 12, which includes tasting portions of all hot dogs. There will also be a cash bar, prizes, cornhole, and a DJ. Tickets are available here or at the door.
