March Madness, Restaurant Edition

March Madness is upon us, and far beyond the college basketball court, restaurants and bars are getting in on the action in their own ways.

March Madness at Howels & Hood

(Howells & Hood)

For folks who don’t follow college basketball with the ferocious vigor that many sports junkies seem to do, the words “March Madness” are nary more than seasonal jibberish. Unless of course the “madness” applies to food and booze, in which case hooray! That’s some madness we can all get on board with. With the annual hoops hoopla underway this week, here’s a handy guide to the best restaurants and bars in Chicago to watch March Madness. Or just to pig out while ignoring the television screens.

CH Distillery

March Madness with a side of house-distilled booze? Yes please. This sleek West Loop bar and distillery offers an offbeat locale for gameday viewing, complete with basketball-friendly food and specialty shots crafted by food and beverage director Krissy Schutte. CH Distillery‘s March Madness menu includes pork belly sliders with strawberry jam, chicken thigh sliders, garlic sausage sliders, chili, and cheese quesadillas. Shots are named for The University of Arizona, dubbed Bear Down, and Syracuse, named Otto’s Army. The former includes blueberry- and lemon zest-infused vodka and raspberry syrup, while the latter is cinnamon- and cardamom-infused CH whiskey with orange Curacao, and lemon juice.
