Slow Food, Uncommon Ground celebrate harvest

 

 

The end of August brings with it the bittersweet sense that summer is ending. On one hand, we’ll soon say good-bye to warm, sunny days and summer fruits and vegetables, on the other, we’re starting into the height of the harvest season, when local produce is at its peak.

Slow Food Chicago and Uncommon Ground celebrate the season with their annual vegetarian harvest dinner at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at Uncommon Ground on Devon.

The event starts with a cocktail reception featuring nibbles of seared shishito peppers and stuffed grape leaves and cherry tomatoes along with cider cocktails.

The four-course dinner menu includes chilled fennel soup, green bean and grain salad and crispy peppercorn gnocchi, with a sweet finish of fresh peach turnovers, all paired with cocktails mixed with local spirits.

Tickets are $65.
