Taste of the Nation brings a bevy of Chicago chefs to Navy Pier

Share Our Strength’s Taste of the Nation 2013 benefit feed comes to Navy Pier Wednesday, Aug. 14, with nearly 100 Chicago chefs and mixologists stirring up the action. The fundraiser works to stop childhood hunger.

R.J. Melman of Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises chairs the event, so Lettuce restaurants such as HUB 51, Paris Club, Bub City, Nacional 27, Tru, RPM Italian, Osteria Via Stato and L2O will be dishing out tastes, along with such eateries as Benny’s Chop House, Green Zebra, Vie, Perennial Virant, Province, The Savoy, Carriage House, The Bedford, Red Door Kitchen and Bar, The Signature Room at the 95th, Sepia, Acadia, Blackbird, avec, Big Jones, Lula Cafe, The Radler, The Pump Room at the Public Hotel , Bar Toma, Cafe Spiaggia, Quartino, Girl and the Goat and more.

“The number of children struggling with hunger in American now totals almost one in five, and that number is even higher in Illinois, at one in four,” Melman says. “The funds raised by this event actually move the needle and help provide healthy, nutritious foods for kids. Every child deserves to receive the nutrition they need — not on some days, but every day.”

The event will also honor Chef Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate for her efforts on behalf of the charity. Entertainment from Chicago DJs features too, along with a silent auction offering food and wine experiences.

Tickets start at $125 for general admission.
