Celebrating that hard-to-meet restaurant milestone, its first year in business, Sandwich Me In in Lakeview may look like any other sandwich shop, but it has a real difference.

Not only do Chef Justin Vrany and his staff make 98 percent of the food in house from scratch using locally grown ingredients, from the daily-baked bread to house-smoked meats and house-made pop, they work hard to maintain a sustainable, zero-waste footprint through recycling and other methods.

In its one year of operation, Vranny says, Sandwich Me In has produced only 8 gallons of garbage! How many other local restaurants can match that?
