Chicago farmers’ markets open

Hooray! Fresh local fruits and veggie time is almost here. Hang out with your favorite farmers and pick up freshly picked produce.

Farmers’ market season kicks off in Chicago on Saturday, May 11, with the opening of city-run markets selling fresh fruits, vegetables, plants and flowers at Lincoln Park (Armitage and Orchard) and Division Street (Division and Dearborn). An official opening event takes place Thursday, May 16, at Daley Plaza (Washington and Dearborn).

Great news for those of us who hate to get up early in the morning: There will be two new weekly night markets this summer: the Logan Square Night Market, 5 to 9 p.m.on Wednesdays beginning June 26 and running through Sept. 4 and the Argyle Night Market, 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, June 27 to Sept. 19. Besides produce, they’ll feature live performances, arts and crafts from local artisans and prepared foods from area restaurants.

Most of the Chicago farmers markets will open throughout June. There’s a market every Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday somewhere in the city. See for a complete list of locations.
