Local food fest fetes farm-fresh cuisine

The Good Food Festival and Conference, celebrating local farmers and chefs and their food, launches today at UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago.

Events for the general public begin tomorrow night at 6 p.m. with a party featuring fermentation expert Sandor Katz, followed by “Localicious,” a tasting event featuring samples from such restaurants as Allium Chicago, Big Bowl, Chicago Diner, Duke’s Ale House, Province, Yusho and more.

On Saturday, chefs Rick Bayless of Frontera Grill, Carrie Nahabedian of Naha> and Paul Virant of Vie pass on their kitchen skills in cooking demonstrations. A variety of workshops and exhibitors also feature.

Tickets are available online or at the door for a premium, and range from $10 for a Saturday-only pass to the exhibition hall to $270 for the whole event.
