Three West Loop places to taste the hard stuff

There’s more to drink than chardonnay and craft beers. Check out these West Loop tastings of stronger spirits.

  1. Porkchop in the West Loop introduces a whiskey flight program. Their high-proof trios, which include tastings of bourbons, ryes, Irish whiskeys and scotches, range from $15 to $22, and they’ll throw in a slider for another $6.

  2. Carnivale in the West Loop hosts “Mojitos 101, a class by Master Mixologist Daryl Freeman at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13. Freeman will demonstrate two Cuban cocktail recipes and recount history of this classic Cuban cocktail. The class, with drink samples and appetizers, costs $25. Reservations required

  3. Table, Donkey & Stick in the West Loop welcomes Robert Birnecker, master distiller of Chicago’s Koval Distillery, who will talk about Alpine traditions and techniques of brandy and schnapps making and his personal brandy-making history and guide a tasting of Koval’s brandies, paired with four courses of Alpine cheeses and charcuterie. Tickets are $50.
