LM issues a passport to fun

RJ Grunts

Years and years ago, when I was a young budding foodie, Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises, then known for brilliantly quirky promotions of its wonderfully inventive restaurants, issued passports to its rather smaller eatery empire. If you got it stamped at seven of their restaurants (which in those days meant you had eaten at most of them), they gave you a free dinner at the then LEYE-owned and very luxurious Pump Room.

I loved that promotion. My husband and I had a blast collecting the stamps at the different restaurants, including the erstwhile Fritz That’s It! and Lawrence of Oregano, as well as the ever-popular Scoozi! and RJ Grunts, and, of course, we adored dressing up and going to the Pump Room, which we never could have afforded otherwise, and made us feel very grown up and sophisticated.

Now, LM Restaurant Group gives you a chance to have similar fun on a slightly smaller scale. Pick up a passport and get it stamped when you buy an entree at each of their four restaurants — Brasserie 54 by LM in Andersonville, Brasserie by LM in the South Loop, LM Bistro in River North and Troquet in Ravenswood — and LM will give you $35 gift card good at any of them.

They’re launching the program Thursday, Jan. 24, with a kick-off party at LM Bistro featuring Chef Bradford Phillips’ $32, three-course, prix-fixe menu (choices include flatiron steak with bacon, mushrooms and soubise sauce, duck breast with farro risotto and parsnips and sea bass with ratatouille and lemon butter). You have till March 31 to fill up your passport.
