Robert A. ‘Bobby’ Hatoff, 1943–2012

Bobby Hatoff

Bobby Hatoff

We add to the chorus of condolences to the Hatoff family, Allen Bros., their customers and everyone who knew him on the sad and shocking death of Bobby Hatoff, chairman of the meat processing firm that had its origins in the Chicago Stockyards, today the world’s largest purveyor of USDA prime beef.

Mr. Hatoff, 69, was found dead of a gunshot wound on Oct. 7, near Allen Bros.’ headquarters. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a suicide, according to news reports.

Mr. Hatoff, who was to have been inducted into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame later this month, was a pioneer in the industry and an expert in the field.

We cherish our memories of this gentlemanly, knowledgeable man, a great loss to the community.
