Six spots for chicken in September

September is National Chicken Month. Check out these birds:

  1. Rustic House in Lincoln Park roasts free-range organic chickens with rosemary, thyme and garlic and offers them to go with sides such as roasted garlic mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, 3-cheese potato gratin, brussel sprouts with pancetta and thyme and sauteed spinach with garlic. The take-out spread to serve two to three is available after 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays for $34.

  2. Chez Moi, former Bistro 110Chef Dominque Tougne’s new cafe in Lincoln Park, serves volaille aux morilles sur lit d’epinards a l’ail roti, chicken and morels with spinach and roasted garlic, $29.

  3. At Chicago’s Home of Chicken & Waffles in Bronzeville and Oak Park get items like “Mark’s Big Boy,” half a fried chicken smothered in gravy and onions with two waffles, $14.75.

  4. Pecking Order: A Chicken House in Ravenswood serves Chef Kristine Subido’s Filipino-style chicken roasted, grilled or fried. A half chicken with one side runs $11.95.

  5. Pizza Capri in Lake View, Lincoln Park and Hyde Park serves delectable chicken-topped pizzas, including its “Thai Pie,” crowned with grilled marinated chicken, bean sprouts, carrots, scallions, cilantro, roasted peanuts and mozzarella cheese over Thai sauce, $16.95 for medium.

  6. Khan BBQ in Rogers Park is fabled for its tandoor-roasted, Pakistani chicken boti, big, moist chunks of skinless poultry, lightly charred and streaked with zesty green herb-yogurt paste, $10.99.
