Friday food porn: Porked!

Bakers Square's 'Salty Hog' pie.

Bakers Square's 'Salty Hog' pie.

As if we needed proof that the bacon trend has reached its nadir, Bakers Square restaurants jump on the porcine bandwagon with the “Salty Hog,” a bacon-topped pie. A blue-ribbon winner at the American Pie Council’s 2011 National Pie Championships in Orlando, Fla., the pie has finally made it to the chain’s menus this month, and will be offered through the end of September. The over-the-top confection consists of layers of salted caramel and roasted almonds, moist chocolate cake and Bakers Square’s famous chocolate French silk in a flaky pie crust topped with whipped cream, drizzled with salty caramel and crowned with candied bacon, $3.99 per slice.

Dine in on Wednesdays and get a slice free with any order. A whole pie is $13.99, $2 off on Wednesdays. Sign up for the Bakers Square E-Club and get free entree on your next visit. Bakers Square has 10 Chicago area locations: Burbank, Dunning, Harlem-Foster, LaGrange, Libertyville, Melrose Park, Niles, Palatine, West Rogers Park and Wilmette.
