What is Indian curry? Maybe not what you think. Chicago author and teacher Anupy Singla presents “What’s Your Hurry? Enjoy Our Curry!” an explanation of the intricacies of true Indian curries at a public meeting of the Culinary Historians of Chicago, 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Kendall College School of Culinary Arts on Goose Island.

Singla will walk the audience through the process of building curried dishes, which are not made from curry powder and discuss other widely-held American misconceptions about Indian cuisine.

Born in India, Singla came to the U.S. at 3, but annually visited family in Punjab, where her grandfather gave her her first cooking lesson. She is the author of “The Indian Slow Cooker: 50 Healthy, Easy, Authentic Recipesand her newest cookbook, “Vegan Indian Cooking: 140 Simple and Healthy Vegan Recipes.”

Cost of the lecture is $5, $3 for students.
