The eighth annual “Corks & Crayons” benefit, 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Greenhouse Loft, 2545 W. Diversey Parkway in Avondale, offers family-friendly fun and tastings from a dozen Chicago’ chefs, including “Top Chef” contestants Heather Terhune of Sable in River North and Richie Farina of Moto in the West Loop and Mindy Segal of Hot Chocolate in Wicker Park, winner of the 2012 James Beard Award for Outstanding Pastry.

Three Floyd’s beers, artisanal wines from Candid Wines and nonalcoholic beverages for the kids also feature. Family activities include a mini farmers’ market, tours of the Green Exchange, a photo booth, musical entertainment, a silent auction and a raffle prize drawing.

The event benefits Purple Asparagus, a nonprofit that educates children, families and the community about healthful, sustainable food. Tickets are $70 for adults, $15 for children ages 5 to 18 and free for kids under 5.
