There appears to be a disagreement among bakers as to the date of National Cheesecake Day. That means the rest of us get two days of this cheesey but delectable holiday.

Local favorite Eli’s Cheesecake in Dunning celebrates Thursday, July 26, giving away free slices from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. They’ll also have various festivities until 1 p.m., including the weekly farmers’ market on the grounds, free continental breakfast from 7 to 9 p.m. for market customers who make a $5 purchase and a free flower-arranging class at noon. Eli’s will also serve a lunch of hot dogs, brats and burgers at prices from $5 to $6.50.

The California-based Cheesecake Factory observes the day on Monday, July 30, introducing their new Oreo Dream Extreme cheesecake featuring layers of Oreo cookies, fudge cake, Oreo mousse and milk-chocolate icing. Cheesecake slices of all varieties will be half off for diners at the restaurants on the Magnificent Mile and elsewhere.
