Gear up for the holidays with sweet events

Creme de Menthe Truffles

Why mess up your kitchen making holiday sweets when you can use somebody else’s? Local culinarians invite you to come into their kitchens for sweet cooking parties.

Chocolatier Katherine Duncan hosts a truffle-making party from 6:30 to 9 p.m.Thursday, Dec. 8, at Katherine Anne Confections in Logan Square.

Appetizers, wine and chocolate sampling are included along with discussion of pairings, designing flavors and creating ganache and hands-on creation of classic truffles. Each students will leave with samples of the four types of truffles created. The truffle-making party costs $50 and reservations are required.

Fig Catering in Pilsen invites you to use their facilities to mix, bake and decorate cookies from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11. Fig will supply recipes and ingredients, and you can send your own favorite recipe ahead so they’ll have the makings.

Take home dozens of cookies and enjoy a light meal during the event. Admission is $50, payable by Wednesday, Dec. 7. Nonalcoholic beverages are included, and you can BYOB.
