Santa comes to Chicago for breakfast and dinner

Santa Claus is having a busy social season in Chicago this month and invites families to join him at a variety of holiday breakfasts and dinners around town.

  • The Chicago Park District hosts dinner with Santa at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 9, at Eugene Field Park, 5100 N. Ridgeway Ave. in Albany Park, 773-478-9744 ($10) and 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, at Norwood Park, 5801 N. Natoma Ave., 773-631-4893 ($11). You and the kids can also enjoy lavish brunches with the jolly old elf from 10 to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at the United Club at Soldier Field, 1410 S. Museum Campus Drive, 312-235-7162 ($55 for adults, $25 for children ages 3 to 12, and free for children under 3 years of age) and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, Parrot Cage restaurant at the South Shore Cultural Center, 773-256-0149 ($20 adults, $12 children). Reservations are required for all events.

  • Tavern on Rush on the Gold Coast hosts breakfast with Santa from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18. Adults can enjoy a la carte breakfast favorites such as crab cake benedict or breakfast pizza. A children’s menu includes silver-dollar pancakes, cheesy scrambled eggs and more. Photos with Santa are free to breakfasting families.

  • Shiraz on the Water in Bloomingdale hosts lavish brunches with Santa from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays, Dec. 4, 11 and 13 ($27.95 adults, $13.95 children 5 to 12, free for children 4 and under). Chef Carol Buckantz offers a buffet of traditional breakfast items, omelet and waffle station, lunch specials, carving station, side dishes, desserts (including a chocolate fountain) and a knee-high kids’ buffet featuring dishes such as chicken fingers, macaroni and cheese and silver-dollar pancakes.

  • River Shannon in Lincoln Park welcomes Santa to a free pizza and pop party for kids from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21. Each child will go home with a Christmas goody bag filled with candy and holiday-themed toys.
