Five places to learn to cook with Chicago chefs

Cooking season is here. Time to tune up your cooking skills. These Chicago restaurants want to help you gear up for the holidays with culinary classes.

  1. Flip Crepes at the Chicago French Market in the West Loop team demos the art of the French crepe in a “Sweet and Savory Couples Crepe Class” at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. Tickets are $95 per couple.

  2. Le Titi de Paris Chefs Susan and Michael Maddox help you prep for the holidays with a variety of classes: 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, “Holiday Starters,” appetizers to serve and take to your holiday parties, $60; 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, hands-on “Breads You can Bake & Freeze,” including yeast-raised, quick, sweet & savory, $78; 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, “Holiday Additions,” side dishes to add to your family gatherings, $60. Each two-hour class at the Arlington Heights restaurant is followed by a multi-course meal.

  3. Raw at the Chicago French Market in the West Loop hosts a vegan cooking class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 7. Chef Carole Jones teaches how to prepare “Energy Soup,” fresh spinach lasagna and honey fig and pecan pie, $50.

  4. Markethouse Restaurant and Bar Chef Scott Walton covers root-vegetable soups at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, and Thanksgiving dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22. Each demonstration is $45 and includes a five-course dinner at the Streeterville restaurant.

  5. Carnivale Chef David Dworshak leads a Latin-style holiday cooking class at noon Saturday, Nov. 12. The River West class will feature Columbian arepas filled with roasted pork belly and Spanish paella, $25.
