Lent in Chicago, 2011: Fish fries and beyond

Lent, the season of the fish fry, is here. Check out these spots for your meatless Friday fish fix.

  1. The Cafe at the Glenview Park Golf Club, Glenview, 4:30 to 8 p.m. Fridays, all-you-can-eat buffet offers baked haddock, fried cod, popcorn shrimp, fried clams, soup or salad and more, $12.95, $6.95 children under 10.

  2. Chevy Chase Country Club, Wheeling, 5 to 9 p.m. Fridays, all-you-can-eat buffet offers fried perch, broiled fish fillets, New England clam chowder, cole slaw, oven-browned potatoes, pasta and other dishes, $11.95, $6.95 kids. Local bands perform jazz, classic Irish tunes and piano.

  3. Cleos, Ukrainian Village, noon to 2 a.m. Fridays, $5 fish and chips special.

  4. The Dark Horse Tap & Grille, Wrigleyville, $5 Friday fish-and-chips deal offers Atlantic cod with Guinness curry batter.

  5. Duke of Perth, Lincoln Park, Wednesdays and Fridays, all-you-can-eat fish and chips, $9.50.

  6. Fifth Province Pub, Irving Park, Fish fry, 6:30–9 p.m. Fridays, $12 for adults and $8 for children, with live music to follow. Tonight, the dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. to kick off the Irish American Heritage Center’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities.

  7. Irish Oak, Wrigleyville, Friday fish fry offers all-you-can-eat fish and chips, $8.

  8. John Barleycorn, Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville and Schaumburg, Lenten Friday specials include fish and chips (all-you-can-eat beer-battered cod with cottage fries), $8.95, and pepper and egg sandwiches, $5 to $6.99.

  9. Phil Stefani’s 437 Rush, Gold Coast, Friday Lenten special, zuppa di pesce, features clams, mussels, shrimp, fresh fish and baby octopus in a spicy tomato sauce, served with garlic toast points, $39.

  10. Quartino, River North, Friday dinner special of brodetto ai frutti di mare, a half Maine lobster, clams, calamari, shrimp, and octopus simmered in savory tomato broth, $25.

  11. St. Andrews Inn/Chicago, Edgewater, all-you-can-eat Friday fish fry with fish and chips and house-made cole slaw, $11.99.

  12. Steve’s Lounge, Hegewisch, 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays, a la carte fried-seafood dinners include everything from lake perch to frogs’ legs.

  13. T’s Bar Restaurant, Andersonville, Friday all-you-can-eat fish and chips, $14.

  14. Wolfy’s, Northbrook, Friday specials include pepper-and-egg sandwiches, $3.49, and fish filet sandwiches, $3.29.
