Tramonto tells all

Scars of a Chef by Rick Tramonto

Former Chicago chef Rick Tramonto, late of Trio in Evanston, Tru in Streeterville and Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood in Wheeling, tells the story of his life in a new book due out next month, “Scars of a Chef: The Searing Story of a Top Chef Marked Forever by the Grit and Grace of Life in the Kitchen.”

Part memoir, part cookbook, part inspirational guide, the book covers Tramonto’s transition from dyslexic high-school dropout, drug addict and Wendy’s burger flipper, the son of a jailed mobster, to acclaimed chef and restaurateur; his rise to culinary stardom alongside his wife, famed patissiere Gale Gand; the subsequent breakdown of their marriage; and Tramonto’s born-again redemption.

“I wrote ‘Scars of a Chef ‘as a way to inspire and encourage readers in all walks of life to discover, develop and follow their passions,” said Tramonto. “I think they’ll enjoy getting an inside peek at the culinary world as well.”

The book comes out just as Tramonto and Louisiana chef John Folse prepare to launch Restaurant R’evolution in the Royal Sonesta Hotel in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans.
