Octavarius performs at ComedySportz through Oct. 24.

Choose your own comedy adventure when Chicago improv troupe OctavariusChris Bogue, Matt Castellvi, Matt “LP” Gutierrez, Keith Habersberger, Matt “Tinz” Herzau, Nick Mikula, Marc Muszynski, Lisa Ridarelli and Brian Wohl — presents “Octavarius: So Nefarious” at 7 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 24 at The ComedySportz Theatre in Lakeview.

Audience members suggest subject matter for the 30- to 40-minute show, which is created on the spot with classic improv games interspersed with themed skits. Each week’s show has a different theme (such as R2D2 or pirates); on the preceding Monday, Octavarius releases an hour-long podcast showcasing the coming performance’s theme. The ensemble’s costumes and related sketches reflect the week’s theme. Come to the show in costume related to the theme and you can buy tickets at $3 off the $10 price.

For even cheaper laughs, ComedySportz offers Free Night of Comedy beginning at 7 p.m. every Wednesday, Sept. 22 through Nov. 13, with the REC League, Kayfabe (with former WWE star Colt ‘Boom Boom’ Cabana), Battle-Prov and an improv open mike. Domestic canned beer at $3 will make the jokes even funnier.

For a pre- or post-show nosh near the theater, you can stop into Clarke’s, a 24-hour diner where menu items such as “Le Big Meaty Pita” and “Cheesey Chicken” will give you sustenance enough to get through any improv show.
