Oy vey! The Jewish New Year will be here sooner than you think — Rosh Hashana is starting already at sundown Sept. 8! Gib zich a traisel, bubbelehs!*

The Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies will help you tool up for a sweet 5771 with “Rosh Hashanah Boot Camp,” a one-evening holiday crash course from Chef Laura Frankel at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17.

Executive chef of kosher catering at Spertus, Frankel (ex-Shallots Bistro) demonstrates delectable Rosh Hashanah dishes made with local and seasonal ingredients such as gourmet honey, as well as providing plan-ahead tips and time-saving techniques. Students will get to sample the kosher fare and take home the recipes. Afterward, the chef will sign copies of her cookbooks, “Jewish Cooking for All Seasonsand “Jewish Slow Cooker Recipes.”

Tickets are $18.
