Tramonto says ta-ta to Tru

Rick Tramonto

Rick Tramonto

Chef Rick Tramonto announced on Twitter today that he was leaving Tru, the groundbreaking, upscale Streeterville restaurant he and his now ex-wife Gale Gand opened in 1999. Saying he was moving on to a “new and exciting journey,” Tramonto told followers to watch for further announcements.

This is the second namesake restaurant (Tru stands for “Tramonto Unlimited”) the chef has departed. He left Tramonto’s Steak & Seafood in Wheeling not long after its inception.

Gand remains at Tru as executive pastry chef and a partner. Lettuce Entertain You Enterprises announced that Chef Anthony Martin, who joined Tru in 2008 after working with Joel Robuchon in Las Vegas, has been named executive chef/partner. Martin has been in de facto command of the Tru kitchen since arriving, so the effects of Tramonto’s departure on the dining experience will likely be small.

Tramonto is expected to reveal his plans after July 4.
