As if the slow economy weren’t enough…. Police warned yesterday that burglars have hit at least a dozen Chicago restaurants.
The break-ins have occurred across the North, West and Northwest sides. The thieves cut phone lines to disable security systems, and broke in through back doors to loot the closed eateries’ safes and steal cash and electronics.
The police did not list all the restaurants concerned, but the Sun-Times reported Nov. 12 that burglars had tried to break into Mia Francesca in Wrigleyville, before being frightened off by the restaurant’s alarm. Another attempt occurred on Dec. 4 at a restaurant on the 3000 block of North Ashland.
Anyone who can provide information to help with the investigation should call detectives at (312) 744-8263.
