Repeal Day, Dec. 5, 1933
Tomorrow marks the day in 1933 on which the Volstead Act was repealed. Celebrate!
Tonight, Faith & Whiskey in Lincoln Park hosts a Prohibition Repeal Party tonight, with a free Knob Creek tasting and informational session from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., dancers from Ripettes Burlesque at 10 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and a costume contest with cash prizes for the “Best Female Flapper” and “Best Male Gangster” plus $7 specialty cocktails designed by Brad Bolt from Bar DeVille.
Custom House in Printers Row will serve with $5 Repeal Day cocktails all day tomorrow, alongside special tavern dishes from Chef Aaron Deal.
The first Chicago liquor license issued after Prohibition went to Herman Joseph Berghoff. The Berghoff Catering and Restaurant Group in the Loop still keeps it on display.
