WE’VE GOT PRIZES. Who said, “I am drinking the stars?” E-mail me with the correct answer along with your name and address by 6 p.m. TODAY and you could win two tickets to tomorrow’s Tour de Champagne at the Drake Hotel on the Gold Coast. The event, beginning at 7 p.m., offers tastes of Champagnes from over 20 houses, with cuisine from 20 local restaurants, including Blackbird, Brasserie Jo, Everest, Quartino and Sunda. (If you don’t win, you can still buy tickets: $115 for the tasting alone or $150 for VIP tix including a cognac tasting, a dessert buffet and an after party at Pops for Champagne.)
What makes you Chicago’s biggest foodie? Send e-mail of 500 words or less answering the question by Tuesday, Nov. 10. Two winners will get to attend Olive Oil from Spain’s VIP cocktail and tapas event at Mercat a la Planxa in the Loop on Wednesday, Nov. 18, and receive a gift basket of related goodies.
SERIOUS FOODIES will be in a quandary over which of two big events to attend this weekend: The Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance symposium at Kendall College on Goose Island covers “Beef: From Plains to Plate,” with meat-cutting exhibitions, lectures, tours and meaty meals, individually priced, while the Great American Cooking Expo in Palatine features cooking demonstrations, over 140 exhibitors sampling foods and wines and showcasing the latest trends and cooking gadgets and a beer garden sponsored by Goose Island Beer; single-day tickets are $20 online, $30 at the door. The Expo will also be collecting nonperishable food donations for the Palatine Township Food Pantry.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE JEFF WINNERS. In Monday’s Equity ceremonies at the North Shore Center for the Performing Arts, five Joseph Jefferson Award trophies went to Timeline Theatre’s long-running production of Alan Bennett’s “The History Boys.” The Goodman Theatre’s “Ruined” added four more awards to its bevy of accolades, which include a Pulitzer Prize, and Court Theatre’s Caroline, or Change also bagged four Jeff Awards.
