Some of Chicago’s top restaurant chefs are on the block, and the bidding has been fierce. Paul Virant of Vie was up to $1,500 as of this morning, but there were still a few bargains left: Cary Taylor of Chaise Lounge was at $75; Randy Zweiban of Province, Gil Langlois of Chalkboard and Troy Graves of Eve at $100 each; and Carol Wallack of Sola at $150. Of course, the auction doesn’t end till Thursday.
Sixteen local chefs have put themselves up for sale to benefit Swan Creek Farms’ George Rasmussen, a Michigan farmer who purveys meat and eggs to some of the city’s best restaurants. Rasmussen lost his refrigerated truck and other equipment in a fire in April.
The highest bidders will win an evening with the chef of their choice, who’ll come to their home and cook dinner for six.
