Escape NRA crowds with suburban deals

With the National Restaurant Show in town through Tuesday, you can expect Chicago’s hot spots to be jammed, especially those within an easy cab ride of McCormick Place. So this might be a good weekend to check out some place different in the suburbs.

The discount deals at these destinations will leave you with enough money for gas:

  • Karma in Mundelein. Through Sunday, the Asian-inspired eatery offers a three-course, $20 prix fixe featuring choices such as orange-peel chicken tempura and Asian BBQ salmon.
  • Birch River Grill in Arlington Heights. This American eatery also offers a three-course, $20 deal, with entrees including barbecue-glazed, bacon-wrapped boneless pork chop and blackened sirloin.
  • Glen Prairie in Glen Ellyn. Sustainable American fare from local farmers’ markets goes into a three-course, $20 prix fixe centered around your choice of seared Miller Farms chicken or Glen Prairie’s signature meatloaf.
