Weekend Planner: Easter Edition

Easter Prix Fixe at Devon Seafood Grill

Easter takes a nautical turn at Devon Seafood Grill, where executive chef John Cosnotti has cooked up a special Easter prix fixe menu for the holiday. Available from 11:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m., guests can eat their way through a multi-course spree that begins with appetizer options like a baby greens salad, Caesar salad, Maine lobster bisque, or spinach and watercress salad. Entree selections are a center cut filet with Yukon gold potatoes, grilled asparagus, and rosemary demi; seared scallops with lobster risotto and Champagne beurre blanc; a bone-in pork chop with mostarda, Parmesan-herb roasted Yukon potatoes, and grilled asparagus; jumbo lump crab cakes with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus; and mesquite-grilled Atlantic salmon with leek fondue, potato-sage gratin, and mustard vinaigrette. For dessert, there's vanilla bean creme brûlée, lava cake, berries and cream, and apple croustade. The prix fixe costs $40 per person and reservations are recommended. The regular menu will also be available.

Easter Specials at Slurping Turtle

A Japanese restaurant may not be the most traditional spot in Chicago to celebrate Easter Sunday, but you'll be singing a different tune upon partaking in Slurping Turtle's Easter specials this year. All Easter weekend long, the restaurant is featuring dishes created by chef/owner Takashi Yagihashi during his stint on Top Chef Duels, on which he won an egg challenge during the show. His three dishes are features a la carte or as part of a three-course menu for $32 per person. These dishes include tamagoyaki, a Japanese egg omelet with grated daikon; chiyawanmushi, a steamed Japanese egg custard with Alaskan spot prawn, shimegi mushroom, edamame, and asparagus; and nabeyaki crab tamago-togi udon, Alaskan snow crab in a clay pot with udon noodles, soy-dashi broth, egg drop, fried tofu, and kamaboko. Slurping Turtle will also be featuring a green tea creme caramel for dessert this weekend.

Brunch at Browntrout

For something a little more low-key and brunch-y, get to Browntrout in North Center, where chef Sean Sanders specializes in sustainable, seasonal Midwestern cuisine in a family-friendly setting. This weekend, he's got a special Easter brunch menu on the docket, featuring fresh new spring dishes like rhubarb-ricotta buttermilk pancakes; Granny Smith apple fritters; a butterscotch parfait; slow-cooked French omelets filled with wild mushrooms and herbs; shaved black kale salad; chicken finger sandwiches; crispy walleye sandwiches; and more. Brunch cocktails, housemade sodas, and sides round out the menu.
