Slow Food Chicago Pig Roast at Goose Island

The only way a pig roast could get more summery is if an ice cream truck crashed into it. Fortunately the Slow Food Chicago and Goose Island pig roast is plenty summery already, and with their fifth annual event coming up this weekend, it promises to be the belle of the pre-summer ball. Taking place June 9 at Goose Island Beer Company, this year's porcine festivities feature Duroc and Duroc crossbreed hogs from Gunthorp Farms in LaGrange, Indiana. In an endearing turn of full-circle events, the hogs are actually fed mash from Goose Island's brewing facility. Along with all the pork you can eat, the event features beer (of course) and music by Chirp radio station.

The pig roast is like the pork equivalent of the Met Gala, featuring a mighty lineup of chefs from all over the city preparing pork dishes derived from their own individual hogs. The roster includes Paul Fehribach from Big Jones, Andrew Hroza from Goose Island Brewpub, Top Chef vet Beverly Kim, Rob Levitt from The Butcher & Larder, and Jared Van Camp from Old Town Social and Nellcote. Ryan Stevens from Handlebar will provide a vegetarian dish, while Sarah Mispagel from Nightwood is on dessert duty. General admission is $70, which includes a commemorative glass to fill with beer. Proceeds benefit Slow Food Chicago, and tickets can be purchased online or at the event. An optional $90 admission fee includes a donation to the 2014 Terra Madre delegate fund.

The 21 and over event takes place from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Goose Island Beer Company (1800 West Fulton Street).
