Philadelphia Steakhouses, Perfect for an End-of-Year Business Dinner

The end of the year is a time to take your clients, employees and colleagues to dinner. It’s a time of recognition and celebration…and no food says “celebrate” quite as powerfully as a big juicy steak. An no steak is quite so delicious as one you can legitimately write off as a business expense.

The City of Brotherly Love also loves steak, and Philadelphia is home to a number of truly superb steakhouses that provide just the right atmosphere and red meat to create the appropriately festive vibe for an end-of-year celebration/business dinner. Though there are many national steakhouses available in the city, we prefer to go to the one-offs, the places that you can find pretty much only in Philadelphia and that offer a unique Philadelphian experience.

Here are six Philadelphia steakhouses where you can end the year on a high note with a fantastic feast of red meat.

Barclay Prime

Barclay Prime. A Philadelphia classic with a contemporary vibe, Barclay Prime is the place to take your valued business associates (or your significant other) for some exceptional steak. For fun, check out the Barclay Prime Cheesesteak, a classy take on a Philly classic sandwich: wagyu ribeye with foie gras, squirted with truffled Cheese Whiz, wild.

Top Cut. Midwestern-raised, 100% USDA prime Angus beef is what Top Cut is all about. The stars are the prime bone-in dry-aged ribeye and the prime dry-aged New York strip. Because this is an end-of-the-year celebration, consider having the kitchen toss a South African lobster tail on top of the steak; now that’s a celebration!

Chops Restaurant and Bar.. USDA prime butchered cuts of meat are why people come to Philadelphia’s Chops Restaurant and Bar all year long, but especially during the holiday season. Chops Restaurant and Bar distinguishes itself by sourcing steaks from the best providers of high-quality red meat: from Creekstone, a 28-day dry-aged New York Strip; from Gachot & Gachot, a prime cowboy steak, and from Porvimi, a center cut veal chop. When it comes to steak, careful sourcing makes a huge difference.

1700 Degrees Steakhouse.  Specializing in USDA prime Midwestern beef, 1700 Degrees Steakhouse serves up perfectly prepared red meat entrees that you’d have a hard time finding anywhere else. We’re talking about a bone-in certified Angus filet mignon, a prime flat iron and a CAB tomahawk. All meat is perfectly seared. Can you guess how hot the oven gets? (That’s right: a blistering 1700 degrees.)

Top Cut

The Prime Rib. With a tuxedoed staff and nightly live music, The Prime Rib in Philly serves up some extraordinary steak in addition to their justly famous prime rib of beef, including a dry-aged USDA prime New York strip and a USDA prime bone-in ribeye. The Prime Rib also boasts a superb, award-winning wine list that thankfully includes a large variety of wine by the glass and bottles under $50.

Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse. In the great tradition of the Italian-American steakhouse, Davio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse presents a range of delicious meats, served in a beautiful room that says “special occasion.” There are center cut filet mignon and prime aged New York strip steaks, both available in smaller or larger sizes. If you’re really feeling in the mood for celebration, order a three-ounce slab of Japanese A5 Wagyu because, hey, it’s the holidays!
