Best Washington Steakhouses to Take a Vet to Dinner

Any day is a good day to bring a veteran to dinner.

Memorial Day is when we remember those who gave their lives to fight for American freedoms. Honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice is the right thing to do on Memorial Day, May 27, but this is also one of many times of year when it’s also right to celebrate all those who served their country.

On Memorial Day, after you’ve recognized the sacrifices made by those who came before, take a moment (or three) to thank a person who’s still serving – or who has served – in the armed forces. A fine way to say thank you is with a steak dinner.

Here are six of the best Washington steakhouses to take a vet on Memorial Day, Veteran’s Day or any day of the year when you want to say, “Thank you for your service.”

Claudia's Steakhouse

District Chophouse and Brewery [https://www.beststeakrestaurant.com/dc/washington/restaurants/district-chophouse]. Red wine might be the typical accompaniment to a good steak, but at District Chophouse and Brewery, you will be tempted – and rightly so – to enjoy some of the best house-brewed regional beers. To pair with your selected brew, the Chef-Cut options include ethically raised, local, organic, grass fed and free-range selections, or you can go more homey with some the signature meatloaf, served with Cabernet sauce and crispy onions.

Claudia’s Steakhouse. Claudia’s Steakhouse is a classic and classy place to bring those you love. They have the usual selection of USDA prime meats, as well as some house specialties you’ll want to try. The Negra Modelo Drunken Rib-eye is sixteen ounces of beer-marinated goodness, and the Wagyu Burger is probably one of the best representatives of the hamburger genre you’ll find in our nation’s capital.

BLT Steak

BLT Steak. The stylish yet casual BLT Steak in Washington, DC, offers generous servings of USDA prime steak, including the Cowboy (a 22-ounce bone-in ribeye) and the Kansas City (a 28-day dry-aged prime bone-in strip steak). To go with all that magnificent meat, there’s an equally magnificent wine list, including some craft beers and the currently trending mocktails.

The Prime Rib. “Food and Wine” magazine honored The Prime Rib by naming it one of the top five romantic restaurants in the United States, but there’s way more than prime rib – or romance, for that matter – on the menu. There are fresh, regional soft-shell crabs, imperial crabs and a whole lot of wonderful red meat, including dry aged USDA prime strip steak and steak au poivre or Roquefort (we recommend the latter).

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse. Del Frisco’s is a name you probably know, and if you know the name you probably know that at this steakhouse, you’ll be served some of the very finest USDA prime meat that you’ll find anywhere. There’s a prime porterhouse and a bone-in prime strip steak, but for special occasions, we highly recommend the wagyu tomahawk ribeye, a 32-ounce ribeye long-bone, truly a steak to remember.

Bourbon Steak. A Michael Mina restaurant, Bourbon Steak in Georgetown’s posh Four Seasons, maintains the high traditions set by this James Beard award-winning chef. There are bone-in 35- and 60-day aged beefsteaks, but also wilder cuts of venison, bison and elk. This is a special place, and just the place you will want to bring special friends and family members who served in the military. We can’t think of a better way to say “Thank you.”
