Weekly Planner: Pride Bowls, Big Gay Ice Cream Takeover and World Tapas Day

Pride Bowls at Furious Spoon

In honor of Pride Month, Chicago’s most popular ramen spot, Furious Spoon, is partnering with Howard Brown Health for a very special dish called the “Pride Bowl.” Each rainbow-hued bowl, available all month long at all locations (except Revival Food Hall), will send proceeds to the organization. And considering what each bowl is made with, you should have no problem craving it. Courtesy of chef Shin Thompson, the dish features chile-infused noodles, veggie broth, spicy miso, Fresno chilies, sweet chili shrimp, sweet corn, scallops and Napa cabbage. $2 from every purchase will go to Howard Brown Health, which works to eliminate healthcare disparities for the LGBTQ community.

Big Gay Ice Cream Takeover at Nico Osteria

In other Pride news, New York City’s famed Big Gay Ice Cream is headed to Chicago for a very special dessert takeover at Nico Osteria for Pride weekend on June 23 and June 24. Founders Douglas Quint and Bryan Petroff will both be in town, teaming up with Nico’s pastry chef Leigh Omilinsky to create a delicious lineup of sweets. The specials include “dirty banana” soft-serve, rainbow macaron ice cream sandwiches and fruity tequila-dunked freeze pops. As an added benefit, a portion of proceeds from the desserts will also go to Howard Brown Health.

World Tapas Day at El Tapeo

Lovers of Spain’s famed small plates would be wise to trek to Oakbrook Center to celebrate World Tapas Day in style. El Tapeo Spanish Kitchen is celebrating the holiday, which takes place June 21, with a special (and charitable) tapas dish called pimenton d cerdo. Made with pan-fried peppered bacon and saffron-orange sauce, the dish is the handiwork of executive chef Matthew Cappellini, and all sales from the dish will go to the Hinsdale Humane Society to boot. In case you needed added incentive, El Tapeo also features a lengthy lineup of regular tapas items worthy of celebrating on such an occasion. These include fried Medjool dates, flatbreads with tomato jam and goat cheese, miniature pork shanks with orange-jalapeño glaze and shrimp with garlic and polenta bread.

Lottie’s Summer Breakfast Club

You can always count on Lottie’s Pub to keep things casual and tasty. Indeed, the neighborhood watering hole is hosting a special “Breakfast Club” on June 16 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., featuring beer, brunch and booze on the patio. It’s a package deal that costs $25 per person, and consists of Bloody Marys, mimosas, Miller/Coors pints, and the brunch dish of your choice. Options include breakfast tacos, Nutella-stuffed waffles and hangover burgers. Tickets can be purchased on Lottie’s website.
