While Mother’s Day may be all about brunch and mimosas, Father’s Day tends to lean towards burlier fare, like prime rib and beer. Here are some top picks for Father’s Day feasting this year in Chicago.
BLVD: There’s a whole bounty of specials to be had at this ritzy West Loop newcomer, where Father’s Day specials include a fried soft-shell crab dish with ramp kimchi, herb pistou and kombu remoulade; exclusive by-the-glass wine options poured from magnums table side; and 25% off all steaks. The restaurant will be open on Father’s Day for dinner from 4:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Bernie’s Lunch & Supper: Come June 17, this casual, familial eatery will serve brunch from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. with savorous dishes like lox and pita with parsley-sumac salad, croque madames with coppa ham and Gruyere, steak and eggs with romesco salsa verde and donuts. The rooftop will be open for al fresco seating as well, and reservations can be made by calling the restaurant.
Lawry’s The Prime Rib: For those meat-loving dads looking to cook at home, but don’t want to sacrifice the quality of a restaurant-caliber meal, this iconic institution has the perfect solution. For Father’s Day, Lawry’s will be offering a special rib-eye package to take home. For $275, said package contains four 24-oz. seasoned steaks, two quarts of horseradish slaw, one pint of crispy onion strings and a bowl of housemade potato chips. Orders must be placed at least 48 hours in advance and can be mad by calling Lawry’s or emailing Shannon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Split-Rail: For dads who have a soft spot for Rolling Rock, beers are free with the purchase of food for all dads at Split-Rail. It’s the perfect quencher for the West Town restaurant’s brand new sidewalk patio. As an added (adorable) perk, chef Zoe Schor will be joined by her dad behind the grill in the kitchen for the day.
Baptiste & Bottle: Not only do dads eat free (with the purchase of another entree) on Father’s Day at this high-flying restaurant inside the Conrad Chicago hotel, but the ever-inventive spot is also offering gift certificates for the acclaimed virtual reality cocktail. The first of its kind in the country, the headset-equipped, immersive drinking experience includes The Macallan Rare Cask, 30-year old sherry and a virtual reality experience that takes guests to the setting where Scotch is made.
Bistronomic: Dining specials run all day long at this Gold Coast staple. On Father’s Day, the restaurant will open for brunch from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m., featuring an appetizer-entree combo special for $27, with optional bottomless mimosas for an additional cost. Dishes to choose from include Chioggia beet salad with truffle oil, goat cheese and hazelnut vinaigrette; quiche Lorraine with bacon; and brioche French toast with creme brulee batter, orange supreme and Grand Marnier syrup. For dinner, Bistronomic will offer a three-course meal for $39, or $44 with a paired Stella Artois. Dishes include steak frites with flat-iron steak and roasted garlic puree; country pate with baguette croutons and Dijon mustard; and beef tartare. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant.
Band of Bohemia: Brunch and beer are a match made in Father’s Day heaven at Ravenswood’s esteemed Band of Bohemia, where both the house-brewed beers and contemporary cuisine are sure to please. Brunch will be served from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on June 17, with dishes to choose from like an Osetra caviar crepe cake, chicken biscuits on housemade nori biscuits and Boston creme donuts infused with housemade beer. Reservations are recommended, and can be made both online or by calling the restaurant.
