Mother's Day Steakhouse Guide

The biggest brunch day of the year is around the bend, with Mother’s Day set to take place Sunday, May 13, and there’s no better way to mark the occasion than with an aptly decadent meal at one of Chicago’s best steakhouses. Mom deserves a little indulgence, so take her to one of these spots serving brunch for the holiday.

Chicago Chop House: For a meaty Mother's Day outing with an Irish accent, there's only one destination in town. Take mom to Chicago Chop House, one of the oldest and most esteemed steakhouses in the city, where she'll get to indulge in a spread of savory and sweet buffet fare spanning both breakfast and lunch selections. This include omelettes, pancakes, prime rib, Irish onion soup, lobster bisque, salads, desserts and other delicacies. Special cocktails will also be available, including a bacon Bloody Mary, in case you haven't already consumed enough meat. Live piano music will be the icing on top of the cake, too. The buffet is served from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Mother's Day, and the cost is $50 per adult or $15 per child 12 years and younger.

Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House: Normally not open for brunch, this glistening Gold Coast bastion is opening the doors early in honor of moms on Mother’s Day. From 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. the all-day affair provides ample opportunity to spoil mom with the likes of filet Benedict and prime rib. Of course, cocktails and Champagne will be in abundance as well. Along with food and drink specials, the restaurant’s recently refurbished dining room should add a little pomp and circumstance as well, including an eye-popping three-story wine tower and cozy, familial banquettes. After your meal, take her to Del Frisco’s recently opened Esquire Champagne Room for more bubbly and light bites. Reservations can be made by calling the restaurant or visiting its website.

III Forks Prime Steakhouse: Lobster Benedict, shrimp and grits, steak and eggs and lobster omelettes are all on hand and accounted for on the Mother’s Day brunch menu at III Forks Prime Steakhouse, offering something for everyone — and their mom. Served from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m., there’s both a prix fixe option and an a la carte menu with items like seared scallops, wedge salad, filet mignon, Chilean sea bass, lobster tail and lobster mac & cheese. Mimosas for the table can (and should) be added, and children 12 and under can order off the “young adult” menu with items like pancakes, eggs and sausage. The regular dinner menu will be offered after 3:00 p.m. Reservations for brunch can be made online or by calling the restaurant.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille: In honor of Mother’s Day, this Oak Brook fixture opens early at 11:00 a.m., offering its lauded dinner menu all day long. So you have plenty of opportunity to bring mom in for the proper treatment. In addition to special cocktails like mimosas and brandy milk punch, the restaurant will be serving its three-course Sunday Supper-style menu from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. for $34.95 per person, with optional dishes like wedge salad, Caesar salad, the famous pork chop and a dessert trio with vanilla bean crème Brûlée, praline cheesecake and Perry’s chocolate crunch.
